Definition: Tinailler

Back
The name comes from tine, an old wooden vat. The tinailler is a large room containing vats and a wine press, where all the operations involved in receiving the harvest and making wine took place (Mâconnais and Beaujolais). Elsewhere, the tinailler can refer to a wine cellar or a large dining room, such as the grand tinel in the Palais des Papes in Avignon.
