Definition: stapling

It is a semi-circular U-shaped steel rod with both ends curved so that it can be held in place by the ring under the neck of the bottle. The stapling is done by a stapling machine. The wire penetrates deep into the cork, thus holding it tightly in place. There are automatic machines that combine corking and stapling.

The complete wire fastening is called a muselet with its plate.
