Definition: Shipping liqueur

Liqueur added to champagne after disgorging. The loss of liquid is compensated for by adding liqueur d'expédition, a mixture of old wines and cane sugar, the content of which determines the nature of the champagne: brut contains 10 g of sugar per litre, dry 30 g/l, and semi-dry 40 g/l.
