Definition: Sedimentation

All phenomena that lead to the formation and deposition of sediment. In wine, sedimentation is the settling of impurities that cloud the wine to the bottom of a wine container. Simple gravity allows the wine to be decanted and clarified. Fining and filtration are processes that further increase the clarification of the wine.
