Here, everything is linked to Saint Marcel in homage to Marcel I, the martyred pope, celebrated on 16 January. Local religious history shows us the relics of Saint Marcel, who was killed in the territory of Châlon-sur-Marne, in the church of Saint-Marcel. The presence of vineyards bears witness to the religious origins of this village, as evidenced by the name "La Vignasse" given to one of its neighbourhoods.
Local winegrowers joined together to form the Saint-Marcel-de-Careiret Winegrowers' Union and, in 1928, founded the Cave des Vignerons de Saint-Marcel-de-Careiret, which has no fewer than a hundred members and covers an area of around 250 hectares. They produce the classic Côtes-du-Rhône red wine, which is enjoyed daily at the table.
