Definition: Pseudogley

Back
The presence of rust spots in a layer of soil highlights areas suffering from temporary excess water (hydromorphism). When iron is in a reduced state (low oxygen), in the presence of water, it undergoes a chemical precipitation phenomenon when the water table disappears. Pseudogley can even develop into actual ferric concretions.
