Definition: Population

A grape variety can be defined as a type of vine. It can be considered as an individual member of a very heterogeneous population, but one with common characteristics, belonging to the Vitaceae family. In a vineyard, the mass of different strains of a variety is also called a population, as opposed to a clone, which consists of strains that are perfectly identical.
