In Switzerland, it is the leading grape variety for red wine production. (Blauburgunder, Klevner in German-speaking Switzerland). It is often blended with a little Gamay. The former brings suppleness and smoothness, the latter fruitiness and elegance. The best wines from this blend or from pure Pinot Noir are called Dôle in Valais and Salvagnin in Vaud. These fanciful names also serve as an additional guarantee label, as they are subject to specific standards for the production of the wines that bear them. In Valais, blends that do not meet the quality criteria for Dôle are sold under the name Goron.
