Production area located south-east of Mont-de-Marsan, within the municipalities of the Gers, Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Hautes-Pyrénées departments. These municipalities also produce the Madiran appellation. Classified as an AOC in 1948. White grape varieties: Arrufiac (at least 30%, 60% with Courbu and Petit Manseng), Courbu, Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng, Sauvignon and Sémillon: these last two varieties must not exceed 10% combined.
Area under production: nearly 240 hectares. Vinified as: dry or sweet white. Can be kept: 2 to 3 years for dry white; 8 to 10 years for sweet white. Ideal serving temperature: between 8 and 10°C for dry white; between 6 and 8°C for sweet white. Pair with: dry white with salmon; sweet white with foie gras.
