Definition: Office des Vins et des Produits du Terroir (OPVT)

Back
The OPVT is the Office for the Promotion of Local Products in the Canton of Neuchâtel. The Neuchâtel region is a land of contrasts, where the harshest landscapes rub shoulders with gardens of gentleness and serenity. This diversity is beautifully reflected in the range of flavours offered by local products.
The OPVT is responsible for promoting wines. The winegrowers and winemakers of the Neuchâtel vineyards, heirs to 2,000 years of history, have managed to preserve the authenticity that distinguishes their wines. True to the image of their fathers, these wines are frank and wholehearted, proud and lively.
In addition to its wines, Neuchâtel produces a fine range of cheeses, including Britchon, the latest addition to the semi-hard cheeses, Bleuchâtel, a marvel with noble mould, Houblonnière, a strong brewer's cheese, and the famous Neuchâtel tommes, goat's and sheep's cheeses. However, the undisputed king of the region remains Gruyère cheese. Complemented perfectly by dry sausages, country hams, pâtés and terrines, the best-known meat speciality is the traditional Neuchâtel sausage. The canton's inhabitants are also proud of the delicious fish from the lake.
Bondelles, palées, pike, perch and trout are all popular with lovers of fine food. Not to be forgotten are the famous absinthe – or Green Fairy – the pride of Val-de-Travers, butter cake to be enjoyed with a Blanc de Neuchâtel, and for those with a sweet tooth, taillaule and chocolate truffles.
All are the result of the knowledge and passion that producers, these artisans of authenticity, take pleasure in putting at the service of the most discerning palates.
