A small appellation in the Libourne region covering around 200 hectares, where mainly red wines are also entitled to use the better-known Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation. The Neac appellation is now rarely used. Clay soil produces slightly more rustic wines.
Neac is the French appellation with the shortest name, while the Gironde AOC "Côtes-de-Bordeaux-Saint-Macaire" has the longest name in the Bordeaux region. Taking into account the appellations for eaux-de-vie, it is the "eaux-de-vie-de-marc-originaire-des-Coteaux-de-la-Loire" that holds the absolute record!
