Back A Médoc appellation that is much smaller and much more promising than Listrac. Adjacent to Margaux, it produces medium-bodied to full-bodied wines that are more powerful than Margaux wines, but much less refined. Production area located about thirty kilometres north-west of Bordeaux, on the left bank of the Gironde, more precisely within the communes of Arcins, Avensan, Castelnau-de-Médoc, Cussac-Fort-Médoc, Lamarque, Listrac-Médoc and Moulis-en-Médoc in the Gironde department. Classified as an AOC in 1938 with only crus bourgeois. Area under production: just over 550 hectares. Black grape varieties: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Côt (or Malbec), Merlot and Petit Verdot. Vinified exclusively as red wine. Can be kept for 5 to 15 years. Ideal serving temperature: between 16 and 17°C. Pair with: pot-au-feu à la gardianne (beef stew with peppers), young turkey with onions.
