Back This region of Burgundy produces three times more white wine than the rest of Burgundy combined. Although 70% of the vineyards are planted with Chardonnay, 25% are still planted with Gamay and the rest with Pinot Noir to produce red wines. However, the very calcareous soil is not ideal for Gamay and the reds are not on a par with the wines of neighbouring Beaujolais.
