Médoc region in Bordeaux. Production area located about thirty kilometres north-west of Bordeaux, more precisely within the boundaries of the commune of Listrac-Médoc in the Gironde department. Classified as an AOC in 1957, with 29 crus bourgeois. Area under production: nearly 650 hectares. Black grape varieties: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Côt (or Malbec), Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Vinified exclusively as red wine. It can be kept for 7 to 10 years, or even longer, depending on the vintage or cru. Ideal serving temperature: between 16 and 17°C. Pair with: game, leg of mutton or lamb. This Médoc appellation has received considerable investment, resulting in wines that combine the fruit and finesse of Saint-Julien with the firmer structure of Saint-Estèphe.
