One of the most prestigious champagne brands, founded in 1843, its Clos-du-Mesnil is considered to be an exception in every sense of the word, not because it is ranked above other Krug champagnes, but because it is completely unique. Exceptionally, the Krug company, owned by Moët Hennessy (LVMH), is still run by the founding family. Henri and Rémy, members of the Krug family, continue to oversee production. Area: 10 hectares of red grape varieties owned and purchased, and the same for the white Chardonnay grape variety. Average annual production is around 500,000 bottles. At Krug, only the best grapes are used in production. Krug takes a "mosaic" approach to the vintages and plots that interest them, taking into account their specific characteristics. Harmony, complexity and the interplay of contrasts are paramount. With the entire first vinification process taking place in small oak barrels and a colossal stock of wines ranging in age from approximately 2 to 35 years, the Krug style is perpetuated. The aim is to achieve complexity, breadth, depth and multiple aromatic vibrations, which are enhanced by micro-oxygenation during the short period of ageing in oak barrels, while avoiding the woody flavours that would result from the use of new wood or prolonged ageing. Everything they produce, Brut Rosé, Clos du Mesnil (unique!), Collection, Grande Cuvée and Vintage, is imbued with the best winemaking expertise. So, become a member of the exclusive Krugists' Club!
