Golan Heights Winery produces, on the volcanic soils of the Golan Heights, a good fruity Cabernet Sauvignon aged in new oak under the mid-range Gamla label; under the Yarden label, it produces high-end wines that have gained an international reputation. Carmel is Israel's largest producer, accounting for more than half of the country's production. Carmel's best wines are good, especially the Cabernet Sauvignon Particular Reserve. Another notable wine is the Cabernet Sauvignon/Carignan from Ben Ami in Ascalon.
