Definition: hatelet

Sometimes spelled Attelet. It is a silver-plated skewer topped with a decorative motif, such as a rooster, crustacean, fish, hare, or wild boar. Hâtelets are used to present hot or cold dishes during formal dining. They are arranged in a fan shape on the table and the stem is often decorated with edible items (crayfish, quenelles, kidneys, truffles, etc.).
