A regional term used in Burgundy and Beaujolais to refer to the grape berry. Each berry on the bunch is the result of the development of each flower. From the word grume, the Compagnons du Beaujolais coined the term "Grumage", which refers to a selection of the best wines from the vineyard. The wines selected by the Confrérie are entitled to bear a label provided by the Compagnons with their coat of arms, thus indicating their good ageing potential. For their part, the winegrowers of Juliénas honour prominent figures each year by awarding them the title of "Grumeurs de Juliénas".
