Definition: Gravelle

Term referring to the deposit of tartar crystals that settle at the bottom of the bottle or sometimes on the cork when exposed to cold temperatures. The presence of gravel is harmless and does not affect the quality of the wine. See also deposit, tartar and potassium bitartrate.
