Back (Grape variety without "s") A wine which, unlike blended wines, is produced from a single grape variety that is sufficient on its own and which, in symbiosis with its terroir, best brings out its typical characteristics. The main varietal wines are Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Alsatian grape varieties, Pinot Noir in Burgundy, Gamay in Beaujolais, Mourvèdre in Bandol, Chasselas in French-speaking Switzerland, Merlot in Ticino, etc.
