A quality label for white wines from Neuchâtel, created in 1985. This label guarantees consumers the quality and authenticity of wines from Neuchâtel bearing an appellation of origin. Only white wines made from Chasselas grapes grown in the canton and entitled to the Neuchâtel appellation are eligible for the La Gerle label. Wines applying for this label undergo two tastings, which eliminate those with oenological defects, those that are not characteristic of their appellation, and those that are deemed to be of insufficient quality. The second tasting is carried out after bottling. The owner of a wine accepted by the tasting committee has the right to affix a numbered La Gerle label to their bottles. Every year since 1995, La Gerle d'Or has been awarded to the best representative of Chasselas wines that have obtained a minimum score of 18 out of 20.
A harvest vat that also serves as a measure for grapes.
From the Franco-Provençal gerla, Latin gerulus, carrier, porter.
The tithe on wine is levied on the5th,7th,10th, 11th and 17th gerle (unit of measurement).
