Definition: Fruity

Back
A very general term used to describe the aromas of the large family of fruits, expressing the fresh, ripe fruit flesh contained in a wine. A fruity wine does not necessarily taste of grapes, but of any other fruit. The fruit family is divided into the following sub-series: red fruits, white-fleshed fruits, stone fruits, dried fruits, exotic fruits and citrus fruits. Over time, the fruitiness of a wine fades to make way for the bouquet. Fruitiness is often confused by consumers with aromatic intensity or sapidity.
