Back A vast Bordeaux appellation. Production area located within a territory between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers in the Gironde department, with the exception of the plots of the Côtes-de-Bordeaux-Saint-Macaire, Graves-de-Vayres, Loupiac, Premières-Côtes-de-Bordeaux, Sainte-Foy-Bordeaux and Sainte-Croix-du-Mont appellations. Classified as an AOC in 1937. Area under production: nearly 1,800 hectares. White grape varieties: Muscadelle, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for a minimum of 70%; secondary grape varieties, Merlot (maximum 30%), Colombard, Mauzac and Ugni (maximum 10%). Vinified as dry white wine only. It should be drunk young, between 2 and 3 years old. Ideal serving temperature: between 8 and 10°C. Pair with: hors d'oeuvres, Sorges-style baked carp, shellfish, grilled fish or stuffed clams.
