Definition: ENTAV - ITV France

Back

In 1962, on the initiative of Professor J. Branas, with the assistance of President Ch. Daussant, the support of the public authorities and the backing of INRA, professional wine-growing organisations created the National Technical Association for the Improvement of Viticulture. In 1986, this association became ENTAV, the National Technical Establishment for the Improvement of Viticulture, taking on the status of an Industrial Technical Centre, as defined by Law 48-1228 of 12 July 1948.

The two national technical institutes for the wine industry, ENTAV (National Technical Establishment for the Improvement of Viticulture) and ITV (Technical Institute for Wine), decided to merge at the end of 2006 and create the French Institute for Vine and Wine, named ENTAV-ITV France. Its headquarters are located at the ENTAV headquarters, Domaine de l'Espiguette, in Le Grau du Roi (30). This new institute, which will take over the missions of the current institutes, will enable the optimisation of financial resources and synergy between scientific and technical teams.

It will be administered by a 30-member board of directors, which is smaller than the two current boards and includes representatives from various national professional organisations (production, chamber of agriculture, nurseries, trade, employees, companies linked to the sector), as well as from research and higher education. Wine-producing regions will also be represented.

ITV France will also establish partnerships at the production basin level, particularly with regional inter-professional organisations and chambers of agriculture.

The partnership established between InterLoire and ITV France, through the creation of a joint regional "Research, Development and Innovation" centre, has been ratified.

This merger and these initiatives at regional level are intended to create, around ENTAV-ITV France, a national network of expertise capable of coordinating the efforts of all those involved in the chain of progress and innovation who wish to do so.
