Definition: Endogenous fauna

Back
This soil fauna feeds exclusively on roots, and its role is to eliminate all dead roots. Plants, particularly vines, spend their time renewing their root systems. Without endogeic fauna, the subsoil would become compacted. As it works, this endogeic fauna aerates the soil and enriches it with faecal matter, encouraging new roots to grow ever deeper. See biomass.
