Author of guides and numerous books on wine. Of Alsatian and Savoyard origin, Patrick Dussert-Gerber was born in Algeria in 1956 into a family of farmers, including vineyard owners. After studying law, he began a career as a professional journalist. His meeting with Jacques de Loustaunau de Guilhem, an internationally renowned oenologist from Bordeaux and head of the Technical Institute of Vine and Wine in Nantes, marked the beginning of his specialisation in the field of wine. He learned the wine trade, its secrets and the art of tasting from him, and became one of the most respected noses in the industry. With atavism playing its part, his passion for this "blood of the earth and sky" led him to collaborate with numerous French publications, to create Magnum, the first consumer magazine devoted to wines and spirits, and to launch Millésimes, the annual bible for wine lovers, which has become an essential reference. He also edited L'Officiel des Grands Vins, which is aimed more at professionals. Alongside Millésimes, which he edits and to which he also contributes alongside his wife, Brigitte, the book that brought him international renown is the Guide Dussert-Gerber des Vins de France, a veritable bestseller (Éditions Albin Michel, 27th year, over 1 million readers), recognised as the essential reference for enthusiasts and professionals and awarded the Gutenberg prize, equivalent to the César awards in cinema, as the best wine guide.
For nearly 30 years, "PDG" has undoubtedly been the most important and prolific French author in the field of wine. He has written more than thirty books, the vast majority of which have been published by Éditions Albin Michel. Webography:
