Appellation from the Bergerac region. Production area located in the canton of Duras, more precisely within 15 communes in the Lot-et-Garonne department, south-west of Bergerac. Classified as an AOC in 1937. Area under production: nearly 1,760 hectares. White grape varieties: Chenin, Mauzac, Muscadelle, Ondenc, Sauvignon, Sémillon and Ugni; black grape varieties: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Côt or Malbec and Merlot. Mostly vinified as white wine (dry or sweet), rosé and red. It can be kept for 2 to 5 years or even longer, depending on the vintage. Ideal serving temperature: between 6 and 8°C for sweet white wines; between 8 and 10°C for white and rosé wines; between 14 and 15°C for red wines, slightly less for young wines. Pair with: dry white with seafood, sea or river fish; sweet white as an aperitif or with dessert, such as peach or strawberry-based pastries; rosé with cold meats or white meat; red with chicken stew or cooked, roasted or grilled red meat. If young, it can accompany white meat, veal with porcini mushrooms is a wonderful pairing, or simply charcuterie.
