Definition: Coup

Several colloquial expressions contain the word coup in relation to wine and alcohol. Boire un coup means to have a drink. Le coup du milieu refers to the glass of alcohol served in the middle of a meal to aid digestion. Le coup de l'étrier refers to the last drink consumed before leaving.
