Definition: Couleuse

Back
A bottle whose closure is not airtight. This may be due to a poor-quality cork or an accident during bottling (the cork being pinched by the jaws of the corking machine). Other causes include a cellar that is too dry, a cork attacked by moths, or a cork weakened by age. A good quality cork should last at least twenty to twenty-five years.
