For fine wines and other quality wines, heavy capsules are used as the sole raw material. Manufactured from tin using a rolling and stamping process, these capsules respect the centuries-old tradition of seamless metal capsules and are particularly suited to high-end wines. Printing on the skirt and head by screen printing, embossing and relief printing on the head.

However, there are several types available for all wines: stamped pewter capsules; aluminium capsules; capsules made of a thin aluminium, polyethylene and aluminium composite; capsules made of a thick aluminium, polyethylene and aluminium composite; capsules made of shrinkable PVC.

Capsules must be easy to cut with a knife, leaving a blunt edge. Capsules must be able to accommodate a tax stamp. They may also be equipped with a tear strip, allowing them to be opened by hand. The capsule is an important element of the bottle's appearance.
