A metal or synthetic cap that simply covers the neck of a bottle to decorate it and protect the cork. Overcaps adorn the neck of the bottle in its final presentation. Metal crown caps are used today for the temporary closure of sparkling wine bottles during the second fermentation, as well as for bottles of "litre" quality wine.
