Definition: boukha

Back

Boukha was invented by Abraham Bok0bsa, a Tunisian Jew, who was acclaimed by the King of Belgium, Leopold II, at the end of the 19th century. It is an aperitif that is drunk neat, at room temperature or chilled. Boukha is also used as a base for many aperitif cocktails and to flavour fruit salads and other desserts.
Boukha is to Sephardic Jews (Jews from North Africa) what vodka is to Ashkenazi Jews (Jews from Eastern Europe).
