But what exactly is hoeing? What tool should be used for hoeing? How deep should you hoe?
Principle: the purpose of hoeing is to break up the soil crust, remove small weeds and save on watering. By breaking up the surface soil, you
* facilitate the penetration of irrigation water to the roots,
* limit capillary action,
* ensure better soil aeration,
* remove some of the weeds that compete with crops
, which facilitates the absorption of water and mineral salts.
In winter, when there is no frost, hoeing destroys certain parasite larvae that wait underground until spring to protect themselves from the cold. Hoeing is done in spring and summer, 1 to 2 days after a good rain or watering. It is most effective when you see a crust forming on the surface of the soil. Hoeing can be done with the flat side of a hoe.
