Humagne blanc, an old grape variety typical of the Valais region, has become a rarity today. The plant is not very fertile, but produces a young, fresh and fruity wine with good ageing potential. It is said to have health benefits thanks to its high iron content, as revealed by old analyses. However, recent analyses show that red grape varieties, particularly Humagne Rouge, generally contain more iron than white varieties.

In the 19th century, it was known as the wine of new mothers, helping them to recover after giving birth. It was served to mothers in a large wooden cup, in the form of mulled wine, to which spices, honey, etc. were added.
