Pierre André is the name of the estate's founder, who was one of the precursors of organic farming in the appellation. Most of the vineyard is divided into 3 main areas: Les Bedines, La Gardiole and L'Etang. The heritage of old vines is more than exceptional: the average age is between 70 and 80 years, and some vines may be prephylloxera! Massal selections, integral soil cultivation, AB and biodynamic treatments, very low yields.
Oenology
The grapes are harvested by hand, in small crates, then sorted on a table before vatting. After crushing, vinification, using indigenous yeasts, takes place entirely in whole bunches. Vatting lasts 3 to 4 weeks, during which only pumping over and occasional delestage are carried out. The press juice is very gently pressed. The wine is then aged for 2 years in concrete vats or large oak foudres.
Suggestions for accompaniment
Rack of glazed pork - Medallions of venison - Crépinette of lamb.
The estate is located in Courthezon, between Orange and Bedarrides, to the east of the Castelpapal vineyards. Pierre André is the name of the founder of the estate, who was one of the precursors of organic farming in the appellation. In 1980, the estate took the step of conversion and the last small treatments that still remained, such as the one against the grape worm, were definitively stopped. Thus, for more than forty years, the vines of the estate have not been subjected to chemical treatments; and it must be said that they live it rather well because some of them have well passed the century: they even reach 150 years old! In 1984, Pierre André is joined by his two daughters, with whom he will work for many years to come. The first bottlings at the estate date from 1987; then, quite naturally, the estate converted to biodynamic agriculture in 1992, becoming one of the first in the appellation. Through successive purchases, the property continued to grow to reach eighteen hectares in production, sixteen of which are dedicated to Châteauneuf. Jacqueline André worked with her sister until 2008, when the latter left the estate. Recently, Jacqueline's son Vincent joined her, after obtaining his diplomas and doing internships in other vineyards. From our first meetings, we fell in love with...
