The property is anchored on stony ground, hence its name. Ducru is the name of the owner who had the building constructed in 1820. Since 2003, Bruno Borie has been overseeing its destiny. Situated between Beychevelle and the Gironde estuary, the 100-hectare vineyard faces south-east and is divided into 3 separate plots. The gradual use of more organic products, mating disruption and mechanical ploughing have resulted in increasingly clean cultivation.
Oenology
The grapes are harvested by hand in crates. Fermentation takes place in vats with extraction by pumping over. The grapes are put into barrels in December, then pumped over in February to make the blends. The wine is then matured for 18 months in 90% new oak barrels, with racking every 3 months.
