Viticulture

Former owner of Yquem, Alexandre de Lur Saluce applied to Fargues exactly the same principles with which he administered Yquem. The vineyard is situated on the top of a hill, on the upper part of the commune of Fargues, backed by the Landes pine forest. The soils are sandy, resting on a clay-gravel subsoil carefully drained over the centuries by the hands of man. The vineyard has an average age of 35 years and is planted at 7,000 vines/ha. The grapes are harvested by hand, by successive selections. The average yields are around 8 hl/ha.

Oenology

The wine is vinified in new barrels and aged in the same barrels for three years.
