The wine fully capitalises on its great terroir with beautiful aromas of black cherry and spices, a smooth and supple palate with very fine tannins and a stunningly fresh finish. It surpasses the very fine 2003 and reaches the level of the legendary Calon-Ségur, such as the wonderful 1953. Guide Vert RVF: 18/20; Bettane & Desseauve: 18.5/20

Viticulture

Château Calon-Ségur, located at the time in the commune of Saint-Estèphe de Calon, was owned by the d'Albret family, Jean de Lur, Pierre de Marsan and finally Monsieur de Gasq. The property was named Calon after a small boat used in the Middle Ages to transport wood from one bank of the Gironde to the other. The soil is hilly and gravelly. The average age of the vineyard is 40 years.

Oenology

The wine is aged in oak barrels, some of which are new (30 to 50% depending on the vintage) and lasts an average of 24 months.
