Together with their friend Michel Grisard, Béatrice and Louis Magnin have trained and inspired many young winegrowers in Savoie, while at the same time being the forerunners of environmentally friendly viticulture. The three of them have therefore set important quality standards for Savoy wines and are in a way the "parents" of the new generation, which owes them so much and in return carries them very high in its heart.Since the beginning, or almost since the beginning, Louis Magnin, known as "Lili", has been assisted in his work in the vineyard and in marketing by his wife, Béatrice, a little woman with a strong character, endowed with an extraordinary work force and energy, to whom we must pay tribute, because without her, Louis would never have made the career he did. The estate, a family business par excellence, covers 8 hectares mainly located in Arbin, in the Combe de Savoie valley, near the town of Montmélian. The Magnins have been certified organic since 2012, but have been using biodynamic viticulture since 2010. Adjacent to the Bauges massif, on the slopes of Arbin-Montmélian, they claim mondeuse in the Arbin cru, but also produce bergeron, thus roussanne, on the Chignin cru; Roussette de Savoie (or altesse) and jacquère. A wide variety of soils and a south/south-east exposure contribute to the ripening of the grapes, which then express the strength of their great terroirs. The vines are managed in the traditional way, with narrow plantations of 8,500 vines per hectare, short pruning in cordons de Royat or gobelets for the old vines. The absence of chemical fertilisers, the limitation of treatments and the banning of anti-feeders all contribute to obtaining healthy grapes that are very typical of the terroirs in which they were born, just as much as the terroirs that nurtured them.the resulting wines are impressive in their fullness, their energy and, it should also be remembered, their ageing potential, which is becoming rare in the age of contemporary, not to say modern, wines.
