Cahors, Le Lac aux Cochons, Combel La Serre - 2020

  • Provenance: Southwest
  • Appellation: Cahors
  • Domain: Combel La Serre
  • Grape variety(ies): Malbec
  • On-call time: 115 years
  • Alcohol degree: 13%
Produced from a single parcel located at an altitude of 350 m on the Causse, at a place called Rassiels, where there is a small pocket of clay in which water is kept when it rains, forming a "mini lake" in which wild boar love to come and cool off, this inky-coloured, very distinguished wine develops a certain fullness. It is full-bodied and structured on the palate, with a lovely grain of tannin, fruity and well sculpted.

Château Combel La Serre is located on the limestone plateau of Cahors, a great source of young talented winegrowers who are signing the revival of the AOC. It is a family property now managed by Julien and Sophie Ilbert, a couple of winemakers. The Ilberts have been on this land since the beginning of the 20th century. For a long time they took their grapes to the cooperative cellar, but things changed in 1998. It was then that the family took the plunge and decided to make their own wines. More recently, in 2013, they undertook and then succeeded in converting to organic farming and decided, since 2014, to favour parcel selections in order to create new cuvées. And it has to be said that the whole range is excellent, even the so-called thirsty wines!
