Viticulture
Château Coutet is one of the oldest vineyards in the Bordeaux region. It belonged to the de Lur Saluces family until 1922. The estate passed through several hands before Marcel Baly bought it in 1977. The 38-hectare terroir is composed of red clay with limestone outcrops. No herbicides or pesticides are used here. The vines are planted at 6,300 vines/ha.
Oenology
The grapes are harvested in 5 to 7 selections. The grapes are brought in crates and sorted before being crushed. The grapes are gently pressed in vertical pneumatic presses. The juice is then cleaned of its coarse lees and transferred to new barrels for fermentation using indigenous yeasts. Ageing lasts 18 months. Blending takes place at the end of the ageing process.
