Argentina, Tinto, Altos las Hormigas - 2019

The constant quest for Mendoza expression in the estate’s wines is reflected, for the first time, in a blend of grape varieties recognised here for their anteriority. On the nose, this Tinto («red») offers aromas of red fruit and spices, enhanced by hints of tangerine. The palate is lively, with a silky texture and bright flavours. The finish is very refreshing. Viticulture

The grapes come mainly from the vineyards of Luján de Cuyo and Medrano in a smaller percentage. The region has a semi-desert climate with hot days and cool nights. The estate chooses cool soils, with good drainage and a fine sandy-loam texture. These soils allow for deep root development.

Oenology

Hand-picked, double sorted before fermentation. The Malbec and Semillon are co-fermented, while the Bonarda is vinified separately before the final blend. Fermentation takes place in separate stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 24-28°C for 10 days. Only indigenous yeasts are involved in the process. Each tank is tasted three times a day to determine what is needed. The wine is then aged for a minimum of 9 months in concrete tanks. No oak aging.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Chicken curry - Vegetable couscous - Grilled red meats.
