Luis Gutierrez for The Wine Advocate comments: "Going up the scale of time, concentration, complexity (and price), it's worth remembering that this wine was aged in American oak for 47 years before bottling, and has never been blended with any other vintage. It has 340 grams of unfermented sugar and higher acidity due to its age, as evaporation in the casks concentrates everything. It is somehow less rich and more "sharp" and fresh than other old vintages of the estate, with more spice, lots of cinnamon and cocoa powder. The wine is finer, somehow lighter, and with some notes reminiscent of oloroso and even amontillado. There were 6,900 litres of this vintage, which was bottled in a variety of formats, including magnums, three-litre and six-litre bottles." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate: 94/100

Oenology

The grapes are harvested at the end of August. The best bunches are selected and transported in crates to a sandy area where they are laid out in the sun to dry for 10 days (45-50°C during the day and 25-35°C at night). The bunches are then crushed with very powerful presses, and the must is put into vats. The alcoholic fermentation takes place until about 9° of alcohol. The wine is then matured to about 17° and then aged for a long time in large American oak barrels.

Suggestions for accompaniment

To be drunk on its own, as a dessert wine or with a large Havana.
