Merlot del Malcantone, Montagna Magica, HuberVini (magnum) - 2021

A great Ticino wine par excellence, the "Magic Mountain" of the respected Daniel Huber is one of the most renowned and accomplished Swiss reds. It has a nose of red fruits and menthol. Very fine and crisp on the attack, it is quite elegant in texture, full-bodied and sapid. The tannin is noble and sufficiently tight to ensure excellent ageing, which is the vocation of this wine!

Viticulture

The best location and all the care in the vineyards and cellar, as well as the search for perfection, make Montagna Magica the best possible wine produced in the vintage by the estate. This is underlined by the fact that the label is designed by a different artist each year.

Oenology

Maceration for about 30 days. Aged for 16 months in barrels, 40% of which are new. Then another 2 months in tuns.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Stuffed poultry (quails, cockerels) - Melting veal shank, cooked at low temperature.

Domain
As a schoolboy, Daniel Huber was a fan of Plato. He wanted to study philosophy in order to better understand the world. Eventually, he studied at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, the call of the forests no doubt. Once he had obtained his forestry diploma, Daniel Huber initially dreamed of becoming a farmer in the mountains of Graubünden. The real vocations are a series of coincidences and secret necessities: it was finally viticulture that imposed itself on him as an obvious choice, at the beginning of the 1980s, a turning point for wine that corresponded in most vineyards to a change of generation and a change in approach to quality. Daniel Huber and his wife looked for vineyards everywhere: in German-speaking Switzerland, in French-speaking Switzerland - where Anne-Marie is from - and even in Tuscany.
