Château Pavie Macquin, 1er GCC B St-Emilion (magnum) - 2019

  • Provenance: Bordeaux
  • Appellation: Saint-Emilion
  • Domain: Pavie Macquin
  • Grape variety(ies): Merlot 70 %, cabernet franc 25 % et cabernet sauvignon 5 %
  • On-call time: 20 years
  • Style of wine: Vin de grand terroir
  • 96/100 Note: 96/100 | Classement: Premier Grand Cru Classé B
Racy, energetic and dynamic, with no lack of freshness, it once again takes magnificent advantage of its "cold" clay terroir and reveals a particular originality of taste in a finely woven style with more Cabernet Franc in the blend this year and an even smoother extraction than in previous vintages. A real favourite.

Viticulture

This property, run by Nicolas Thienpont and advised by Stéphane Derenoncourt, is located on the very late eastern limestone plateau of St-Emilion, not far from Troplong-Mondot. Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are only used in one of the five final blends.

Oenology

The soil has a very strong clay texture ("terres amoureuses"), a cold soil that quickly turns austere if the maturity is not ideal. A lot of work has been done in the vineyard (part of it has been biodynamic since 1990).
