A serious wall of blueberry and blackberry compote, and a ton of savoury Cabernet sinew and freshness. This is a great Montrose, inky, broad-shouldered and structured. It needs time to aerate and open in the glass, then you see the precision, the heft, the chiselling of the fruits with a ton of graphite, cigar box and campfire smoke - huge persistence. This will need a long time and will reward patience. One of the few where a 1986, 2016 and 2010 comparison makes sense. A yield around 30hl/ha. 1% Petit Verdot, 3.86pH, IPT 80. 45% of the overall production. - Decanter. Guide Vert RVF : 98/100

Viticulture

In 1778, Etienne Théodore Dumoulin bought a piece of moorland belonging to the Ségur family at auction. Suspecting that vines could be grown there, he gradually cleared the land and planted the first hectares of Montrose. The Château's vines cover a vast, homogeneous area of land along the Gironde, on a siliceous-gravelly hillside, above a superbly exposed clay-marl layer. 2nd wine: Dame de Montrose.

Oenology

After manual harvesting, the grapes are sorted before being poured into temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Alcoholic maceration lasts about 30 days. The Grand Vin de Montrose will be aged in barrels, 70% new, for 18 months.
