Viticulture
Château Lagrange, as we know it today, dates back to the 18th century, but its origins date back to the time of the Knights Templar in the early 14th century. The vineyard surrounds the superb building on two siliceous gravel hilltops, the highest point in Saint-Julien. Planting density is around 8,000 vines per hectare. The average age of the vines is 30 years and they produce an average yield of 41 hl/ha.
Oenology
The hand-picked grapes are placed in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for a vatting period of 15 to 25 days, depending on the vintage. The wine is then matured in wooden barrels, 60% of which are new, for 18 months, during which time it is regularly racked. Fining completes the ageing process before Château Lagrange is bottled.
