"The 2013 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses is fabulous. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2013 is in no mood to show all its cards. The late harvest produced a bristling, intensely saline Clos des Goisses that will require years to be at its best. Even so, its depth, textural resonance and finish are so evocative as to what the future holds. The 2013 is a positively stunning Champagne and one of the best Goisses in recent memory. Viticulture

The walled vineyard of 5.83 hectares is one of the few in the region, the oldest and the steepest in the Champagne region. Perfectly south-facing, it occupies the best slope in Mareuil-sur-Ay and is an exceptional terroir, where the chalk outcrops.

Oenology

Partial vinification (47%) in oak barrels to give greater complexity without premature oxidation. No malolactic fermentation, so that the natural acidity offsets the very powerful terroir. Prolonged ageing for eight years on the lees, at a constant temperature (12°C) in the House's historic cellars in Mareuil-sur-Ay.
